FAQ

Below are some FAQs that cover purchasing, Live Sales, and general orchid care.

Purchasing and Shipping:

What delivery options are available?

Based on location, UPS and USPS options are available. This includes Ground to Next Day deliveries. Some states may not have all options available. Barefoot Orchids also offers in-person pickups by appointment on Thursdays and Fridays.

Which shipping option should I choose?

Barefoot Orchids recommends picking an option based on your proximity to their location in Southeast Florida. Most locations in the Southeast United States can safely choose a Ground Shipping option. While areas further away should pick a Two or Three-Day shipping from UPS or Priority from USPS.

How quickly are orchids shipped after being purchased?

Barefoot Orchids ships Monday to Wednesday, depending on the delivery address. Orders are typically shipped the following “shipping” day after payment, although Barefoot Orchids reserves the right to ship up to one week after purchase.

Will Barefoot Orchids show whether a plant is in bloom before I buy it?

Yes — product listings include bloom status so you can see whether a plant is in bloom; for example, listings may show entries like "BS not in bloom." "All in spike" "NBS "(Near Blooming Size).

Are pot sizes shown on Barefoot Orchids product pages?

Yes — Most listings include pot sizes in the product title or in the item description, so you know what container the plant ships in; for example, common sizes include 3", 4", and 5" pots. It’s important to note that pot size does not reflect the plant's maturity.

What does 'Divisions' mean on Barefoot Orchids' listing?

On Barefoot Orchids product pages, some listings are labeled as "Divisions". These are divisions of larger plants that are typically not available for purchase. They are genetically identical to the mother plant.

What should I do if my Barefoot Orchids shipment is delayed by the carrier?

If a carrier delay occurs, contact Barefoot Orchids customer support with your order number so we can monitor the shipment and advise next steps; we also track significant weather or carrier disruptions to help resolve stuck deliveries.

Should I repot orchids after I receive them?

It depends. Always refer to the item description and the grower's advice. If needed, reach out to the grower and ask directly. The main reasons to repot recent purchases are: if the orchid has outgrown its current pot, or if your growing conditions warrant a change in pot or media type.

Live Sales:

What is a Live Sale?

Live Sales are a curated shopping experience that streams live. These are typically done on Sunday evenings at 7pm Eastern. Jason and Rosuara show you the plants, flowers, and answer questions live giving you a more personal shopping experience from the comfort of your home. Go to our “Watch our Live Sales” page to sign up for the next Live or to watch a prerecorded one.

What does a 'curated shopping experience' mean when buying orchids online?

A curated shopping experience means a focused, hand‑selected selection of varieties and a simple buying flow; Barefoot Orchids provides a small, curated assortment and an easy add‑to‑cart checkout so you can browse without pressure. You can ask questions in chat and choose plants at your own pace.

What are the advantages of buying orchids during a Live Sale versus ordering online?

Both are excellent options. Buying on the live sale lets you see plant shape, meet the grower, and ask questions directly.

How do I order plants from Barefoot Orchids during a sale?

When an Orchid is being displayed, you will see an "add to cart" button. After adding the orchid to your cart, look for the "cart" icon. Inside the cart, you will check out and choose your shipping and payment method. This can all be done during the Live with no interruption to your stream.

Does adding an item to my cart on Barefoot Orchids reserve it for me?

No — adding an item to the cart does not reserve it; only completing checkout secures the purchase for Barefoot Orchids items. If an item is low in inventory, complete checkout to prevent another buyer from taking it.

Orchid Care:

What does bright filtered light mean?

Sometimes this is referred to as dappled light. Think about standing outside under a tree. It is much brighter than being inside, but you are not in full sun. This is a great level of light for most orchids.

What does fully dry in between watering mean?

Many orchids want their root systems to fully dry off before getting watered a second time. If you can see the roots, they need to turn white again after being watered and turning green. If you cannot see the roots, this can often be determined by the weight of the pot and plant.

Can you soak your orchids in a bucket to water them?

We do not advise this method. If you do choose to do this, you need to change the water fully between different plants. Sharing the same soaking water can share fungus, bacteria, pests, and pathogens, spreading possible problems amongst your collection.

What fertilizer should I use?

Go to our Orchid Fertilizer and Treatment Recommendations Blog post to review all our recommendations with shopping links for convenience.

What pH range should I aim for when watering orchids?

Aim for roughly pH 5.5–6.5; Barefoot Orchids notes that keeping pH around that range helps orchids take up nutrients more effectively. Test regularly and adjust with a pH‑down product as needed.

Is mounting orchids preferable to potting if I don't have time to water daily?

This depends heavily on where/how you grow and the orchid itself. Many genuses and grexes thrive when mounted, but when mounted, they do require more frequent watering and consistent humidity. Consider where you grow, indoors or outdoors, and the orchid itself. If you are unsure, always reach out to Barefoot Orchids and ask.
