Brassocatanthe Bill Worsley (Cattleya aclandiae × Brassocatanthe Richard Mueller) is an absolute powerhouse of a compact hybrid, specifically bred for collectors who love high-contrast spotting, exceptional vigor, and a highly rewarding bloom habit. Merging the legendary dwarf species C. aclandiae with the hyper-floriferous Bsn. Richard Mueller, this orchid packs massive tropical personality into a wonderfully space-saving package.
The heavy, waxy, and exceptionally long-lasting blooms are a showcase of dynamic color transformation. Flowers typically open with a bright, luminous chartreuse or apple-green background that gradually matures into a warm, glowing golden-yellow. The petals and sepals are heavily decorated with an array of crisp, chocolate-burgundy spots inherited from C. aclandiae, all beautifully framed by a broad, open lip that is softly dusted with matching magenta or burgundy speckles.
Cultivation & Growth Profile
-
Growth Habit: A wonderfully compact, sturdy grower that inherits a highly manageable size from both parent lines. It produces slender, upright pseudobulbs topped with thick, leathery foliage that quickly clumps into a spectacular specimen.
-
Bloom Season: Incredibly free-flowering and opportunistic. Because it inherits the relentless blooming drive of Bsn. Richard Mueller, this hybrid doesn't wait for a specific season—it can easily bloom multiple times a year, throwing up fresh spikes from the top of virtually every new growth as it matures.
-
Fragrance: Highly fragrant, releasing a delightful, sweet, and clean citrusy perfume that carries beautifully through the air during the peak warmth of the day.
-
Culture Preferences: Exceptionally hardy and adaptable, making it a dream to grow. It thrives in bright, filtered Cattleya-strength light with excellent air movement. Thanks to its compact habit and epiphytic heritage, it performs beautifully when grown in open, fast-draining clay pots with coarse bark, in slatted wooden baskets, or mounted directly onto cork slabs where its fine root system can dry out rapidly between waterings
